Why are you a Personal Trainer?
I began my experience with resistance training as a 16-year-old who used strength training as a method of improving my junior football, cricket and athletics performance. Due to numerous soft tissue injuries, I began spending more time in rehabilitation than I did on the playing field, and hence fell in love with the science behind exercise and physiology.
I moved from my small country town in northern Victoria to Melbourne in 2015 with the ambition to acquire the knowledge and skills to become a sought-after exercise practitioner. Over the next few years I was fortunate enough to have the opportunities to supplement my tertiary education with practical work experience under various mentors.
I consider myself a teacher and a problem solver. Personal training provides me the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge to help empower people to lead more integrated, pain free, self-actualized lives through exercise prescription.
What are three words to describe your coaching style?
What kind of clients do you want to work with?
"If you have a body, you are an athlete" – Bill Bowerman
“I have been training with Aaron for more than six months and I am so thrilled I have achieved my goals through the super training program he wrote for me. Thanks to his plan, I completely recovered from a proximal hamstring tendinopathy, achieving a pain-free workout, improving my ankle and calf flexibility and gaining more muscles. My strength-resistance performances have hugely improved, learning the proper technique to execute exercises and understanding the human mechanics behind each and every single movement. It’s been a great motivating challenge in an absolutely fun, supportive, brilliant and professional environment. Aaron’s passion for his job is exemplary and I can’t recommend him and JPS enough for anybody interested in starting or improving their fitness regime”.
I trained under Aaron’s guidance for 9 months. In that time Aaron provided clear direction as to what we were going to achieve and the approach we were going to take, from diet to training programs. He took into account my other pursuits, i.e., running and tailored the programs so that I could also achieve my running goals. When injuries/aches/pains occurred he suggested excellent exercises to address the issues while at the same time maintaining our agreed program. The outcome was that I ran my marathon, lost 13kg and developed muscles!!! I am now in just about the best condition of my life and I’m set up to run even more marathons. From a personal point of view Aaron was always positive, incredibly knowledgeable about ‘the body’ and nutrition and great to work with.
Since starting at JPS with Aaron in late June I have dropped from 93kg to 87kg, developed a much more upright posture and have eliminated near constant back pain following a fracture from a year earlier. I’ve done this with dramatic improvements to my core strength. I’ve made exercise into a habit, often looking forward to it which hasn’t been like me previously. In addition to my workouts Aaron has helped me form habits to get my weekly steps up. I like the environment at JPS because it feels very encouraging, it feels like I get pushed and encouraged for results. Exercise no longer feels like a punishment like it was when I did bootcamps and high intensity circuit training. Thanks to Aaron I also have a much better understanding of my diet. I monitor my daily calories and have worked to increase my protein intake.
Aaron has helped me with numerous things this year which have contributed to improving my basketball. We have worked on improving my vertical leap which has given me the ability to dunk, as well as working on my strength and agility to help me compete equally well against kids both smaller and taller than me. Aaron is a tremendous trainer and I couldn’t have enjoyed his time coaching me more.
“Instead of me constantly worrying about a few hundred grams weight gain here and there (like I have for many years) I have become aware of the causes as to WHY it happens ie. extra carb/sodium intake over the weekend and it’s actually not FAT gain. I’m then able to see that my weight drops gradually week after week thanks to the weekly reports. – Instead of going out and stressing at cafes or restaurants, I’ve become mindful in the choices I make and wake up the next day with no guilt. In the past, I’d go out and eat food such as sushi and rice or pizza and pasta or over indulge on dessert and feel extremely guilty the next day for eating so many carbs or too much fat. Then I’d try and restrict myself for days on end to compensate for the over eating which would then lead to me binge eating again anyway. It’s a vicious circle that I’ve experienced over and over again since my late teens/early 20s. – Now that I’m aware of my macros, and we have ongoing plans set in place, I never feel restricted nor do I feel guilt when eating that little piece of chocolate on a weeknight. This is a HUGE step for me. I always associated junk food with weekends and healthy food with week days which in turn led to excessive binging on a Saturday as opposed to what I do now – enjoying two squares of chocolate on the odd week night when I actually FEEL like a piece of chocolate. I could blabber on all day and have probably left a lot of my experience thus far out, but to sum things up, I know I’m in the right hands with you and the team at JPS. No more restrictive eating. Enjoying all my fats and carbs.”
