WHY DO I COACH?
Coaching for me is much more than just giving out guidance for weight loss and muscle gain/strength. It won’t take a coach starting out very long time to suspect that what gets a coach results aren’t necessarily just lifting more weights over time or eating less than they currently do…
The role of a Coach is so multidimensional that it means there’s always something new to learn and the basic knowledge required for muscle gain and weight loss is just the start.
This is why I love the coaching role and the health and fitness industry as a whole. There is so much possible growth and so much to be learnt. Not just for you as the client but also for personal growth.
I enjoy the challenge of figuring out what it will take for each individual to get results. Whether the results are a new low on the scale or the being able to squat pain-free for the first time.
What underpins all of this is my passion for helping people make sustainable changes to their lives that lead to better health outcomes through resistance training and nutrition.
WHAT DO I EXPECT OF MY CLIENTS?
- A level of truth that will lead to future success
- An intent to work very hard in the gym
- An interest in the knowledge that will lead to me being mostly redundant in the future
- An inquisitive and critical mindset
- A long term mindset
“Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping”
I’ve been training with James since July 2018. I came to James and JPS Airport West seeking a form check. I figured I’d work with him for a few weeks, make sure I was performing my compound lifts correctly, then return to the gym setup I had at home and live happily ever after with my barbell! After only a couple of sessions with James, I realised going back to training at home wasn’t going to happen. To say I’ve made great progress with James would be a pretty big understatement! From the word go, he impressed me with his knowledge around evidence-based training and nutrition and he took the time to listen to what I wanted to achieve and figure out a plan of attack for going after it. I’ve learnt so much from him. James is a critical thinker and he offers me a different perspective on health and fitness. I suspect he’s very subtly but effectively, tweaked my mindset and taught me to sharpen my focus, whilst still having a balanced lifestyle and a flexible approach to nutrition. Despite two stints on the sidelines in this time due to a slightly dodgy back, I’ve almost doubled the weight I’m squatting and pressing. I think we work well together, mostly because he’s figured out how to make me work hard and enjoy (almost) every minute of it! He’s chilled, but consistent in his training approach and he keeps me focused and accountable. When I stumble in at 6am, I always know when he’s been in charge of the playlist and I’ve never in our time together turned off an alarm to avoid training with him! I probably don’t thank him often enough for the results his influence has yielded for me in such a short time, but I doubt I’d have been as successful without him in my corner!
I commenced training at JPS in September of 2018 as part of the ’10 Weeks to Lean’ program. During this time, I lost 4 kilos, learnt how to properly diet and maintain weight and saw a great improvement in my training. James is continually teaching me about correct form and how to get the most out of my sessions. The difference I have noticed about training with James, is that he takes a more overall approach to health and fitness, and knows the science behind so many elements that can impact your training, weight and goals. I am much more knowledgeable about food and training, and feel as though I can make much more informed decisions in my day-to-day life. I look forward to my weekly session with James, and know he will assist and support me with whatever goals I want to achieve.
