The JPS Science & Practice of Strength Workshop one day Training Workshop is for individuals who are wanting to improve their knowledge both in and out of the gym and increase their brain and braun when it comes to lifting and programming.
The workshop has been designed to teach you the fundamental principles and science behind exercise, more specifically resistance training and how to immediately apply it to your training to build size and strength.
Lecture 1: Physiology of Muscle & Strength (90 minutes)
This presentation will cover the fundamental aspects of strength and performance. By understanding the underlying physiology that allows the human body to perform at high levels, the relationship between muscle size and strength and the intricate workings of the nervous system, we are better informed on knowing how to maximise our strength potential. When we have an appreciation for how the body responds to stimuli and signals, we can direct our training strategy to ensure that we are maximising its role in how effective our intervention is.
Lecture 2: Biomechanics Primer – SBD (90 minutes)
This presentation will cover the fundamental concepts and systems related to human biomechanics in resistance training, specifically the squat, bench and deadlift. Important to maximising strength potential is to understand the relationship between structure and function and how the mechanical aspects of the human body influence athletic performance and injury prevention.
Lecture 3: Program Design For Strength Development
This presentation will provide the foundational principles of program design for and their application for strength development and optimisation. The training principles are the guiding concepts that must be satisfied by all well-constructed programs, no matter how varied differing methodologies may be. The training principles are the first step in the process of taking a theoretical understanding of neuromuscular physiology before determining how we apply the training variables such as volume, frequency, intensity and exercise selection. This lecture will start with a recap on the processes by which performance is enhanced, and then move into a discussion on how we can pragmatically design a program to maximise long term and short term strength development.
